travel can be HARD as a disabled person! 😅 over the years I have been left on many trains & countless travel days have completely gone wrong I feel like that’s something you have to expect as a disabled person! We shouldn’t, but unfortunately, that’s the reality right now 👎🏻 but… travelling has really taught me to accept change & deal with problems as they come, because some things are *always* going to go wrong in life I’m actually a much happier person now that I roll (no pun intended) with these things instead of judging myself as a failure & feeling bad every time something doesn’t go to plan 🩷 #disabledcommunity #wheelchairuser #wheelchair #wheelchairlife #accessibility #accessibletravel #fail #disabled #disability #chronicillness

i am slowly falling in LOVE with how accessible the netherlands is! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 the cycling structure of the country is incredibly useful for wheelchair users & with an attachment I can practically function as if i’m a bike! this means i can… • go shopping independently without needing additional transport • get to nature areas/forests without a car or risking getting stuck • experience “cycling” alongside friends and family • zoom down roads without worrying about potholes and being hit by cars! i’m from the UK, which means i’m used to incredibly uneven roads, potholes, bumpy country lanes & not many cycle lanes at all - this is a massive difference for me! 🥹💞 i would love to make more videos on other accessibility differences i’m discovering… would you guys like to see more?? ✨ #disabled #disabledcommunity #wheelchair #wheelchairuser #accessibility #accessibletravel #accessibledesign #netherlands🇳🇱 #netherlands #netherlandstiktok #dutchtiktok #fietsen #nederlands #rolstoel

#ad how do mobility aids actually help my body? using heartrate data from my @visible.health armband 🫀 (ad) usually my daily tasks while standing cause my heartrate to be high! and this causes lower energy & more crashes 😅 but now, comparing this to the pace points & heartrate while in my wheelchair… my stats are much lower, and I’m not in over-exertion zone 📉 i can also see the difference between pushing my chair manually VS with my power attachment (spoiler alert: there’s a BIG DIFFERENCE!!!) → less over-exertion throughout day = better pacing, more energy! ✨ i can see how different tasks affect my body = able to use mobility aids for the tasks which affect me the most mobility aids & pacing techniques allow me to do things i wouldn’t usually be able to - like going to concerts, taking public transport, travelling etc! 🥹 • #chronicillness #disabledcommunity #visiblehealth #heartratemonitor #dysautonomia #chronicfatigue #pacing #chronicallyill #wheelchairuser #disabledcommunity #disabled #accessible #wheelchair #spoonie #chronicillnesscommunity

It’s #Tourettes awareness day!!! 💙🎗️ so here’s some useful facts about the condition! I’ve been diagnosed with TS for 5 years now, and I’ve learned SO much about myself and how to better manage my tics Here are some resources where you can find support for tics @TourettesAction (UK) @Tourette Association (USA) You can also visit the NHS/mayo clinic websites to research diagnostic criteria - but if you believe you may have a tic disorder please ask your GP or see a medical professional! 🫶🏻 💬 What other facts do you guys know about Tourettes? #disabledcommunity #neurodivergent #neurodiversity #tourettesawareness #tourettesyndrome #ticsawareness #disabilityawareness #neurologicaldisorder #neurodivergentcommunity

i wasn’t always a wheelchair user ❤️‍🩹 before my chronic illnesses developed, i was a healthy child but over the years i’ve lost mobility and gradually lost my sports, physical activity, social clubs & the ability to work full time/attend school when i got sick again in early 2024, my life changed completely. i lost the ability to do exercise/gym/sports at all, and this was so difficult to accept. i still struggle to this day ☹️ i miss running, flipping, going to trampoline parks, seeing my friends at the gym, feeling the endorphins when exercising, feeling strong & just feeling physically capable but, i’m trying to reframe this and recognise that i HAVE gained some things from my disability too… ⭐️ resilience ⭐️ understanding & true friends ⭐️ forgiveness for myself ⭐️ confidence / not caring about standing out it’s never easy to adjust to something like a disability, but there are always good AND bad things to recognise and work through! focusing on these positives helps get me through the days when i grieve my old life so much that it hurts 💛 to anyone struggling with this right now, i hear you, i see you, i feel you. with time we can adjust & find joy in new places - keep going, we can do this!!! you are not alone 🫂 #disabled #selfacceptance #disabledcommunity #chronicillness #MentalHealth #chronicalllyill #longcovid #chronicfatigue #functionalneurologicaldisorder #fndawareness #wheelchairuser

My power assist gives me SO much freedom, but I’ve noticed a few things… ♿️ There are big differences between different types of mobility aids! Some types of attachments will be better for some people but not others When I first got my Street Jet, I chose it because I thought the clamps would be super easy to take on and off and I assumed it was a lightweight option However, after a year this is what I’ve found: ✅ given me transport, freedom and independence ✅ off road capabilities (front assists are ideal for this as they lift your castors off the ground!) ✅ street jet is quick to attach/ detach 👎🏻 unreliable clamping (surfaces have to be FULLY even to attach the street jet) 👎🏻 it is heavy! 15kg is a lot to lift, and i can’t do it alone 🏋️‍♀️ 👎🏻 stiff turning (unlike other front assists, the street jet has super strong springs - this causes me upper body pain after a long day) 👎🏻 caused LOTS of scratches all over my chair frame - I wouldn’t use this with a new chair as it damaged mine a lot 😅 There are so many options for attachments, so i’ll definitely make videos on any others I try out! ☺️ But overall, I think the Street Jet is still a great option for a first power assist, and it’s been really freeing! #wheelchair #wheelchairuser #disabled #disabledcommunity #chronicillness #mobilityaid

#ad ad | seeing data is so useful for tracking chronic illness flares 🫀🙌🏻 my Visible band has honestly been game changing because i bc an validate myself when i can’t do as much during the day i can see how hard my body is working & this allows me to slow down when i know i’ve used too much energy already after a year of using Visible, my pace points range has slowly changed over time & i can do more than i used to (without flaring as much)!!! 🥹 but it’s helpful to see when my pace points go up again so i can address any changes & adjust my pacing • @visible.health #disabledcommunity #chronicillness #chronicillnessawareness #disabled #pacing #heartrate #dysautonomia #longcovid

ACCESSIBLE FOREST WALK 🥹🌳 with my wheelchair and front attachment! getting out in nature is something i missed SO much during the first (and worst) months of getting sick. becoming even more debilitated meant i lost all the hobbies i loved, including going for forest walks ☹️ but my attachment gave me part of this back!!! at the beginning of 2024, i got sick after a virus and never recovered (long covid friends, hello!) and i couldn’t get out of bed, or out of the house for weeks on end 💔 but with mobility aids & lots of adaptations i’ve slowly gained this independence back and i’ve found new ways of getting outside i’ve been able to attend festivals, go for dog walks, explore forests & travel thanks to my chair setup and different adaptations like pacing, travel assistance, bringing a carer & many more things 💛 📍p.s - this is filmed in the Netherlands! #disabled #neurodivergent #wheelchairuser #chronicillness #disabledcommunity #wheelchair #accessibility

every disability looks different! 🌍❤️ some conditions are visible, whereas some are hidden. Some days symptoms are good, and some days are bad. There is no one way a disability should/does look, so we should never judge somebody based on their outside appearance Because you never know what is going on behind the scenes 🎗️ #disabled #disabledcommunity #chronicillness #MentalHealth #dysautonomia #autistic #tourettes
