Here’s my top 5 drills with an alignment rod ($1 training aid). Never buy these from a golf store or you’ll pay $20/30 for them! Go to the dollar store (they are called driveway markers) and pick them up. Here’s a breakdown of the drills: 1. Alignment - most people have trouble aiming so these sticks ensure you are aimed correctly in practice 2. Plane drill (shallow) - this stick here promotes more of an inside to out club path. People that struggle with pulls, fades and slices would use this drill to neutralize their club path. It won’t fix it entirely as you need to incorporate the club face, but it’s a good start. 3. Plane drill (steep) - this stick promotes more of an outside to in club path which helps promote a fade. People that struggle with draws, hooks or pushes would benefit from this drill station. Same thing applies with the club face as the previous drill. 4. Plan drill (shallow 2) - this is similar to drill number 2 in terms of promotion more of an in to out club path. People that really struggle with an over the top move would benefit from this. Don’t make this too difficult though, keep the stick higher off the ground. If you start to hit a lot of fat shots, you’re now becoming too shallow. 5. Centered drill - I find a lot of people tend to sway instead of turning in there backswing. I love this drill because it keeps you more over the ball in the swing. You want to set the alignment rod so it bisects the golf ball when you are standing over it ready to hit. If you make a backswing and that line over the ball moves significantly, then you have too much lateral movement in your back swing. Try and keep that line more stable. . Hope these drills helped! Golf training aids don’t have to be so expensive!
