Some people have suggested that Trump simply confused the word “transgender” with “transgenic,” but as I highlight in this video, it’s not that simple. There certainly is research involving the administration of sex hormones to rodents—for a variety of reasons, including better understanding transgender regimens. But also, as Dr. Silveyra describes, some of Trump’s largest cited studies examine sex hormone’s effects on conditions like asthma. Others investigate how sex hormones impact physiology more broadly, including in ways that help us understand transgender healthcare. So, while it’s not accurate to say the millions of dollars that he cited were all spent just to “make mice transgender,” it is technically true that some research involves giving sex hormones to rodents for various reasons. The knowledge gained often has broader implications, improving our understanding of hormones in both cisgender and transgender individuals alike. #science #drnoc
