It gets tiring trying to explain our story but we do it because there are so many people who genuinely want to know and just haven’t had the opportunity to learn about the different ways families can come together. And when they do, it makes the road for others a little easier to travel. Sometimes I think about 16-year-old me and how proud he’d be of the man I’ve become. The life I’ve built. The strength I’ve found. The lessons I’ve learned. The way I show up for the people I love every day. But in the rush of doing, achieving, parenting, planning, protecting, it’s so easy to forget to just be. We get so consumed with trying to reach the next level, setting up the kids for success, making sure we’re covered if something happened to us tomorrow, and all the things that come with chasing the life we’ve always dreamed of. And the truth is, sometimes it sucks. We put so much pressure on ourselves, and we take on the pressure from a society that’s often just waiting to see us fail as fathers, as providers, as men. But today I’m choosing to pause. To breathe. To take a second and really see how far I’ve come. Because this version of me, the one 16-year-old me couldn’t have even imagined, he deserves that grace. Here’s to stopping to smell the roses… even if they’re growing through the cracks. 🌹
